Corked Wines

While we make every attempt to provide wines of good quality and provenance, we cannot guarantee the personal 'drinkability' for every bottle we sell. It is the industry standard that older wines are purchased "as is" and at the buyer's risk as to the drinkability of the wine. This policy includes "corked" wines (those tainted with TCA and smell of wet cardboard). This wine fault occurred during the cork selection process and is completely out of our control. For the aforementioned reasons, no refund or exchange will be granted.

"Nuits-Saint-Georges, which gives its name to the Côte de Nuits (the Nuits hillside) of the northern Côte d'Or, is a sizeable town and something of a winemaking hub in the heartland of Burgundy.

This wine comes from little plots in the same area (1.1 hectare) located in the North of Nuits-Saint-Georges, at the border of the Vosne-Romanée’s village appellation. In this vineyard, the family RION makes a sustainable and rational agriculture without insecticide and herbicide. The crop is picked only by hand and then fully destalked. The full berries (not crushed) will then ferment in a cement tank for about 2 weeks. After the press, the wine will age in our cellar in French oak barrels for about 15 months (45% of new oak barrels). 

The Domaine RION was founded in 1896 by Pierre Rion, the ex-sharecropper of the Château de la Berchère who had acquired the Château’s vines. His son Louis succeeded him, and during his time, he substantially enlarged the Domaine. Bernard Rion has helped his father since 1973 and now manages the Domaine with his wife Armelle and his daughter Alice.

Our vineyards are located in some of the most prestigious villages of the Cote de Nuits: Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, Nuits Saint Geroges and Vougeot. Since 2006, Alice makes the wines with Bernard, who so transmits her his knowledge. The husband of Alice, Louis, joined her on the Domaine in 2010, and takes care gradually of the work into the vineyards, always under Bernard’s eye.
